We need your input!
The Oak Park Recreation Department is considering establishing a Community Garden at Lessenger Park, just south of 9 Mile Rd on Scotia Rd. A Community Garden in Oak Park can improve people's quality of life by providing a catalyst for neighborhood and community development, encouraging self-reliance, producing nutritious food, reducing family food budgets, conserving resources and creating opportunities for recreation, exercise, therapy and education.
To participate, residents would rent an approximately 20' X 40' plot of land for one year at an estimated $60 (subject to change). Gardeners would be responsible for keeping their garden fully planted, watered (water source provided), weeded, and harvested, along with other routine maintenance. Gardening tools would not be provided.
If you'd be interested in signing up for the Oak Park Community Garden program, Please email Roy Vultaggio at rvultaggio@ci.oak-park.mi.us.
Please reply by March 1, 2010. If we get enough positive responses, We will continue the planning process, We are hoping to start up the program in the spring of 2011.
Thank you!
